The Parish Council met on Thursday 11th June 2026 in the Village Hall.
8 members of the public were present. Members of the press and public are welcome and there is a period for public participation at the start. If you are unable to attend but wish to submit a comment or question, please contact the Clerk or any member of the Parish Council.
New Vice Chair and Councillor Roles – Cllr Laurie Fairhurst was unanimously elected Vice Chair of Bere Regis Parish Council.
Councillors also agreed their areas of responsibility for the coming year, covering matters such as planning, finance, allotments, the play area, rights of way, community liaison, parish assets, the environment and youth issues. A full list of each councillor’s responsibilities, together with their contact details can be found on the Parish Council website.
Neighbourhood Plan Review – The Neighbourhood Plan Review has now reached the Regulation 16 consultation stage. The consultation is open until 20th July and residents are encouraged to take an interest and submit comments if they wish to do so.
Community Hall Discussions – The Council received an update on discussions with Dorset Wildlife Trust about the possible future provision of a new village hall or community facility on their site. Dorset Wildlife Trust is exploring a carefully planned redevelopment of the Court Farm complex, which could include the reuse of existing farm buildings for a visitor destination, cafĂ©, small-scale commercial units and potentially a village hall. Dorset Wildlife Trust has indicated that it may be prepared in principle, subject to contract, to grant a long lease of land at Court Farm for a new hall or community facility. Further details, including possible costs, are expected once a development partner has been appointed.
Dogs in Public Spaces – Dog owners are reminded to be considerate of others when using public spaces. Some people may be wary of dogs, so keeping dogs under close control, and placing them on a lead where appropriate, helps everyone to enjoy shared areas safely and comfortably.
Local Updates – Work continues on the Winter and Emergency Resilience Plans, which will return to the July meeting. Councillors also confirmed that local rights of way are currently clear. Riverfly training has been undertaken by members of the Wildlife Group. The Council continues to follow up local matters including potholes, abandoned vehicles, low-hanging branches and fly tipping at Turberville Court.
Next Meeting – The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Thursday 9th July at 7pm at the Drax Hall. If you wish to have an item added to the agenda for discussion, please contact the Clerk or a member of the Parish Council.
