Neighbourhood planning gives communities the power to shape how their area evolves by influencing development. In 2019, the Bere Regis Neighbourhood Plan 2019–2034 (note this link is the old version, the newly reviewed version is below) was adopted as part of the Development Plan for the area. It has since helped guide planning decisions in the parish, and we are now consulting interested parties about the new version. The consultation relates to a Review of the Neighbourhood Plan, the new version of which covers the period until 2034. This is not a new plan, but a focused update aimed at removing policies that are now outdated or duplicated by the adopted Purbeck Local Plan (2018–2034). The Review seeks to ensure that the Neighbourhood Plan remains relevant and effective, whilst improving the clarity of existing housing site allocations, particularly to reflect planning history and consultation with statutory bodies.
The Review does not propose any new housing sites, nor does it introduce new policy themes or change the plan’s vision or strategic direction. As this review aims to be a material modification that does not change the nature of the plan, there will not be an opportunity to include new policy topics at this stage. Any new policy ideas will need to be considered as part of a future full new neighbourhood plan.
Reviewing the adopted plan now helps ensure that it remains an up-to-date and relevant document, affording continued protection and influence over planning decisions in the parish.
The Review has been prepared by a Steering Group and we now want to hear your views on the draft revised policies to ensure they still reflect the community’s needs and expectations.

In accordance with Regulation 13 of the Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulations 2004, the draft Bere Regis Neighbourhood Plan Review and its accompanying Strategic Environmental Assessment (Environmental Report) are being consulted on for the a period of six weeks from 5th January 2026 to 22nd February 2026. The Strategic Environmental Assessment is marked as supporting evidence document 2 (SE2) and can be accessed below, or a physical copy can be requested by post at reasonable cost.
