From the week beginning Monday 3rd March 2014, the “recycle for Dorset” collection scheme will come into being. You should, by now, have received a leaflet through the post explaining the scheme to you.

This service is already being used by 94,000 households in Christchurch, East Dorset and North Dorset. and the recycling rate in these areas has almost doubled, helping the councils save money and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Changes to the way you use your existing wheelie bin 

Dorset Waste Partnership is keen for you to reuse your existing containers where possible. Most houses in Purbeck currently use a 240-litre grey wheelie bin for their rubbish. When the new service starts in March, this will become your recycling bin and you will receive a new 140-litre bin for your rubbish.

This is because you will be able to recycle more, including food waste, heavy cardboard and plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays. You will receive a sticker to re-label your existing bin. This will be consistent with the service used elsewhere in Dorset.

The Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) is an elected official responsible for the governance and oversight of Dorset Police as well as working more widely with local partners, organisations and communities to improve community safety and criminal justice outcomes across the whole of Dorset. The PCC also acts as the “public voice in policing” – representing the views of the public in determining the strategic priorities for policing locally during his term of office.

With that in mind, Dorset Police want to make it as easy as possible for people to find out information relating to the work of the PCC and to make contact if/when required. One important element of this is their website which can be accessed via www.dorset.pcc.police.uk

Dorset County Council are nearing the completion of the policy change which introduced part night lighting.

The policy requires that A and B class traffic routes, roundabouts, town centres and roads with vertical speed humps remain lit all night, with all the remaining street lights being turned off from midnight until 5:30am GMT. This change will not amend any private roads or lighting systems, as only equipment on the public highway and owned by Dorset County Council will be affected. The map shows the extent of lights being switched off. All those lights within the black boundaries will be subjected to the part night lighting scheme.

It is intended to commence changes on site in the next 3 months, taking approximately 1 month to complete.

Dorset County Council will be starting work on the A351 Sandford Road cycleway on the 12th August and work will continue until about 7th October. The work is extensive and will involve carriageway widening, crossing points and drainage works. The work will finish by 3.30pm each day but there will undoubtedly be a fair amount of disruption. Towards the end of the work, the roundabout will be closed to all traffic for a couple of days and diversions will be put in place. As soon as we know the dates for the closure and the diversion routes, we will publish them on the Parish Council web site and on the Village Facebook page.

Dorset County Council is excited to announce the launch of a new traffic and travel portal ‘TravelDorset‘.

TravelDorset brings together all traffic and travel information for the whole of the county including live traffic alerts, road works, diversions, live bus and rail departures and cycling/walking routes.

This is a great resource for local residents, businesses and visitors helping them get from A to B whether it’s by road, bus, train, bike or on foot.

TravelDorset has a range of useful information to help you travel easily around Dorset by car, public transport or other means. This includes up to the minute traffic information, the location and cost of car parks and live information about bus times.

 A vital link road into Poole is being closed overnight for three weeks while resurfacing and drainage work is carried out.

The A350 Poole Road will be closed by Dorset County Council between the A31 Roundhouse Roundabout and Jubilee Cross (the turning to Lytchett Matravers) from 7pm to 6am during the following weeks:

• Monday 8 April to early hours of Saturday 13 April
• Monday 15 April to early hours of Saturday 20 April
• Monday 22 April to early hours of Saturday 27 April

The road will be open overnight on Saturday 13 April, Sunday 14 April, Saturday 20 April and Sunday 21 April.

Andrew Martin, head of highways operations, said: “We know that this road is the vital link into Poole and the port for business deliveries, and we have given early warning about this work to the port and local chamber of trade.

“Because of the narrow width of the road, and the large equipment and delivery vehicles that will be in use, the only way to carry out the work is to close it overnight.

“Anyone who uses the A350 will know that the road surface is in a very bad condition and will understand the need for the work.”

The diversion route will be the A31, A341 Oakley Hill, A349 Gravel Hill/Waterloo Road, A35 Upton Road and A35 Upton Bypass.

Dorset County Council Highways have informed us they have received an application from Amey Highways on behalf of Network Rail to close the A352 at Wool level crossing. The closure has been requested to allow contractors to upgrade and renew the level crossing. The works are programmed to start at 00:05hrs on Sunday 3rd March and be completed by 06:00hrs on Monday 18th March 2013, for a period of 15 days, 5 hours and 55 minutes. The road closure is necessary for safety reasons, as the works will take place within the whole width of the level crossing.

The road closure will be publicised in a number of ways: information will be placed on boards and Variable Message Signing (VMS) on the road in this area to inform the travelling public of the works: there will be a letter drop to local residents and businesses directly affected by the works; and they will sign a vehicular diversion route using the local road network.  A plan of the diversion route is attached:
